The Governing Body
DIS is governed by a management body including the owner/managers and the Principal. The management is committed to the long term provision of quality education, achieved through effective human, financial and facilities management.
The governing body undertakes processes to ensure the long term viability of the school. It guarantees overall management accountability and undertakes reviews of processes and compliance with agreed philosophy, and appropriate financial management and educational practice. Daily management of educational operations is the responsibility of the Principal, who is supported by administration assistants.
The broad direction of Dili International School is defined through the strategic planning process. The strategic plan is reviewed annually in order to maintain focus, improve performance and inform future planning.
DIS bases its practices in alignment with Australian standards.
As an authorised International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years Programme World School the school also adheres to the International Baccalaureate's standards and practices. Dili International School has met the the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority requirements to deliver the Victorian Certificate of Education in association with out partner Haileybury College in Melbourne, Australia.
The Government of Timor-Leste is currently not in a position to extend official accreditation to Dili International School or any other non government School in Timor-Leste. This is because legislation has not yet been enacted to accommodate foreign or private schools. DIS operates with the approval of the Education Ministry who welcome our existence and when the necessary legislation is in place will progress our accreditation and registration.
DIS maintains voluntary compliance with the policy and procedures of the Australian Education Department.
As a further insurance to ensure ongoing compliance with International standards of best practice, Dili International School employs administrators with appropriate qualifications and ensures that classroom teachers are appropriately qualified.
DIS is a benchmarked school in Timor-Leste by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
